Hi my name is Joshua Arucan and I’m the engineer working on the microVISC™ lineup. In my time here, I’ve assisted in a multitude of production, maintenance, and repairs regarding this line up as well as researched process improvements to continue to bring the best microVISCs out to you. We build our microVISC viscometer to be user friendly, simple, and versatile to use. With my experience, I have some tips for every microVISC user out there.

1. Maintain your Calibration Schedule
The microVISC is low maintenance. It only requires cleaning to run its major components. After a year of use, your microVISC should be returned to us to check for routine inspection and recalibrate everything to be within our specifications.
2. Check your pipettes before drawing sample
When drawing sample with a new pipette, visually examine the pipette for optimal use, particularly at the top of the piston. Place your finger at the top of the plunger and feel the top. It does not need to be flat, and you should inspect if there is a minor tip. After visually examining the pipette, check the tightness as well. Our pipette should be smooth and tight without any loose slipping. For optimal use, it is recommended to store your pipettes with the plunger and barrels separately.
3. Properly clean your chips
When changing samples or finishing up for the day, cleaning your chips are essential. Your microVISC has a built-in cleaning protocol that will run the pump at the necessary speed that is needed to clean the chip properly. Be absolutely sure that the cleaning solvents are miscible with your sample and run enough runs to flush your chip of sample. After that, plug your chip using the given rubber plug to prevent debris from entering the chip’s inlet.
4. Monitor and empty your microVISC’s waste container
Make sure to routinely monitor your microVISC waste container. Keep your viscometer upright at all times for optimal use and to ensure that the opening to the waste and waste in the waste container. It is best practice when moving your microVISC to take out the waste container.
